A George III carved mahogany ladderback open armchair
The serpentine acanthus carved toprail above four pierced scrolling leaf entwined crossbars and shaped outswept arms, with scrolling arm terminals above downswept acanthus carved arm supports above a serpentine padded gold silk close nailed seat, on square chamfered legs, joined by an 'H' stretcher.

    George Frelinghuysen was the son of Frederick.T.Frelinghuysen, Secretary of State under President Chester A. Arthur. He was an avid collector and his important collection of American Indian Art was sold Sotheby's New York, 6 June 1976 and his Anglo-American & Other China and Pottery and American Furniture, was sold Sotheby's New York, 24-25th January 1964.
