Henry Lamb was an official war artist in both the First and Second World War. The artist's most famous work from that period is 'Irish Troops in the Judaen Hills' 1919 , which was based on his experiences of the bombardment at the village of Jiljila in Palestine whilst Lamb was a member of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. During the Second World War he tended to concentrate on portraits of soldiers and airmen stationed in Britain. The current lot is likely to date from this later period.
