A red lacquer carved saucer dish
16th century, probably Jiajing
Carved across the wide central roundel with six pomegranates, mostly in profile, issuing from a single long curling leafy branch, all on a ground of leiwen, the wide border relief-carved with a band of eight large-headed peony flowers in a continuous meander on a similar ground, the peony meander repeated on the reverse.
29.5cm (11½in) diam.
