The two locked together as they wrestle, the monkey holding his combatant's leg and trying to pull him down, the lightly-stained wood is slightly worn and the eyes are inlaid, unsigned.

    The model is one known to have been carved by Naito Toyomasa of Tanba. An example by him is illustrated by Raymond Bushell, Collectors' Netsuke, 1971, p.68, fig.87.
