A pair of Shibayama style ivory tusk vases
Meiji Period
Both typically executed in stained ivory, mother-of-pearl and tortoiseshell, the front of one vase decorated with an exotic long-tailed bird perched on a flowering cherry branch, the other with sparrows in flight and finch perched among flowering chrysanthemum shrubs, an elaborate ikebana basket suspended from cherry branches on the reverse, unsigned; both on detachable wooden table reticulated stands. Both 29.2cm (11½in) high excluding stand. (4).
