  • Provenance:
French private collection, Paris, formed between the 1960s and 1980s. Acquired in November 1969.
Prior to this, French private collection acquired from N. Koutoulakis and accompanied by a copy of the certificate of authenticity.

    Literature:
Although unusually for Aphrodite, this figure is fully draped, the top-knot in her hair and the attribute of the apple both indicate that Aphrodite is the subject. For a similar Hellenistic draped bronze of Aphrodite holding an apple, now in the Getty Villa, cf. Exhibition Catalogue, A Passion for Antiquities. Ancient Art from the Collection of Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman, The J. Paul Getty Museum, 1994, no. 101., Inv. no. 96.AB.149.
