A pair of Byzantine limestone column capitals
Circa 6th-8th Century A.D.
Carved in high relief, the lower register with an encircling vine, bands of incised chevrons above and below, the upper register composed of a central peacock on each of the four sides, the tail feathers fanned, flanked with eagles at each corner with wings outstretched behind them, the details of the feather delineated, 17¾in (45cm) high (2)
