Late Period - Ptolemaic, circa 5th-1st Century B.C.
Of opaque black glass with some white spotting, the recumbent jackal body facing right, the front leg extended, flat backed, with convex polished upperside, 3½in (9cm) long, 2½in (6.3cm) high

    Literature:
    For a complete reclining jackal inlay cf. E. Stern, B. Schlick-Nolte, Early Glass of the Ancient World, 1600 B.C.-A.D. 50. Ernsto Wlf Collection, 1994, p.176, no.28. Such inlays were probably mounted in pairs facing each other, in shrines and cartonnage sarcophagai.
