Footnotes

  • Found in South Leicestershire, treasure number 2008 T646. Accompanied by copies of letters from the British Museum describing the ring and confirming that the Crown's interest in this find was disclaimed.

See Campbell, Marian, 'Medieval Jewellery in Europe 1100-1500', London, 2009, plate 73C, for a similar example. Campbell notes that because of the cutting difficulties posed by the hardness of diamonds, they were not commonly used in rings during this period and then only in their natural pointed crystal habit.
