In the style of a Renaissance Hungarian hat ornament, designed as a spray of mixed-cut rubies, sapphires and emeralds, rose-cut diamonds and baroque half pearls, all in closed-back silver-gilt settings, length 14.2cm

  • This brooch is a 19th century interpretation of a Renaissance Hungarian hat ornament, similar to those worn by Imre Thököly (1657-1705) and Francis II Rákóczi (1676-1735), the Transylvanian princes, who appear in portraits wearing Ottoman-inspired aigrettes.
