Arabic and Persian manuscript on paper, in safinah form, 156 leaves, 14 lines to the page written in clear naskhi script in black ink, interlinear gilt decoration throughout, significant words picked out in red, headings in red thuluth within illuminated panels, occasional interlinear Persian translation in nasta'liq script in red, inner margins ruled in blue and gold, one illuminated headpiece in colours and gold, some smudging affecting small areas of text, rather browned, contemporary red morocco with doublures of beige morocco, 149 x 72 mm.; and The Twelve Imams of Imam Muhiyy al-Din, a treatise by Ibn 'Arabi, written on coloured paper by Muhammad al-Musawi al-Husaini, known as Hindi, Persia, dated AH 1304/AD 1886-87

  • The Twelve Imams of Muhiyy al-Din, by Ibn 'Arabi, is also known as Risalah Manaqib, Salawat Muhiyy al-Din and Risalah fi'il-salat 'ala al-nabi wa al-a'imah al-ithna 'ashar. Many commentaries have been written on it.

    According to a note on the opening blank page written by an Indian, the manuscript was purchased in Mashhad by a certain Muhammad Muhsin on 17 Jumadi I 1353/18 August 1953 for Sayyid 'Abid Riza Sahib. According to the colophon, the manuscript was copied to be presented to an unnamed Qajar Superintendent by Muhammad al-Musawi al-Husayni known as Hindi [Indian] in 1886-87. Two other manuscripts by Muhsin are recorded, one in the Majlis Library in Tehran (copied for a high Qajar official) and the other in the University Library in Istanbul. (See Mehdi Bayani, vol, 4, p. 198).
