Central Persia, circa 1890, 208cm x 135cm (6ft 10in x 4ft 5in) excellent condition, minor freying to selvege on each side
Kajji Mullah Muhammad Hassan Mohtashem has become one of the best known of all Persian weavers, although there are fewer than ten known examples of rugs and carpets bearing his signature. The term Mohtashem has come to be used to describe exquisite Kashan rugs bearing similar characteristics.
The current example bears all the hallmarks of the finest of Kashan rugs available. With the subtle combination of colours used in conjunction with traditional designs and the use of Kurk wool make this piece a true collectors gem.
