Gerritt Parmele Judd (1803-1873) was an important medical missionary and advisor to the Hawaiian throne. He arrived in Hawaii with the Third Company of American missionaries in 1828. An active physician ministering to both the native Hawaiian and foreign communities, he also served as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and was a key early advisor to Kamehameha III. He was instrumental in countering England's abortive attempt to colonize the kingdom in 1843.
Other than the suspension hole, identical to specimen illustrated as figure 278b in Buck (1951: 433). According to Buck, only three other specimens exist, all in the Bishop Museum Collection and illustrated in Buck's book.
