Footnotes

  • At 3.5mm deep, the Piaget Emperador has the world's thinnest flying tourbillon.

This streamlined complication is based on the first tourbillon developed at the end of the 18th century by French pioneer of horological design Abraham Louis Breguet; with the intention of increasing the accuracy of the escapement by eliminating positional error. The constantly rotating assembly does not allow the escapement to rest in any one position for longer than another, evening out the increase in friction caused by gravity when the escapement is sat in a vertical position.
