FIRST EDITION OF THIS UNCOMMON TEXAS BOOK. "Captain Dewey had an extensive career in the merchant service, was a privateer, and afterward served in the American navy. In the last he sailed under Commodores Stewart, Decatur and Patterson. Commodore Perry died in his arms, and he had the honor of being selected as one of the chief mourners at his funeral. He took an active part in General Mina's expedition for the freedom of Mexico, and was imprisoned by the Spaniards" (Littell). Howes J273; Littell 581l; not in Sabin.
