A magnificent pair of large cloisonné enamel and gilt-bronze vases

Each of tall imposing form, the ovoid body rising steeply from a spreading foot, the gently tapering neck spreading out to a broad mouth, the main body brilliantly enamelled in rich colours with two registers of four Buddhist emblems separated by stylised lotus flowers, together comprising the ba jixiang, set against a dense design of meandering lotus flowers and stems, the foot with a band of stylised ruyi and other auspicious lappets above a key-fret collar, the shoulder with a similar key-fret collar above a band of repoussé girl-bronze lappets, the neck with matching decoration to the body, above a band of upright stiff leaves and below a narrow band of ruyi motifs and a key-fret collar at the rim, all against a brilliant turquoise-blue ground.
