    Footnote:
Symphonion's competitive version is perhaps better known as the Music-Automat Gambrinus style 25GS, featuring the figure of the Flemish king and unofficial patron saint of beer, who sits astride a beer stein whilst the movement plays inside.
Two of those are known to exist, but many re-builds are present around the world. Here, the illusion is taken further with the sight of a lady, simply attired, 'playing' the box in front of her whilst the little dancing monkeys provide the entertainment. The body section of the maiden was made in papier-mâché or white terracotta, painted and carefully scumble-brushed for the final, almost opalescent, finish.

A special piece of automata, which is joined in this sale by the next lot with similar features.
