Omori School, 18th/19th century
Of oval form, carved in relief with turbulent water and inlaid in iroe takazogan with sea creatures including crayfish, fugu and octopus, signed Omori Teruhide.
8cm (3 1/8in).

    Provenance: purchased at Sotheby's London, 1964.

    Omori Teruhide (1730-1798) was adept at the carving of turbulent water on sword fittings, as shown on the present example. The various marine creatures were probably added at a later date.
