1954 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible
Chassis no. 546253967
Cadillac's "Eldorado Special Convertible" for 1954 was based on a new longer-and-lower body that Harley Earl's stylists had sculpted for that year's standard models. Nonetheless, it was truly a very special—and spectacular—car.

Listing for $5,738—$1,330 more than the Cadillac Series 62 drop-top—the ultra-exclusive Eldorado was loaded with 'power everything,' rolled on chromed wire wheels, and was recognizable at a glance by its anodized-aluminum rear quarter-panel cladding. The model's uniquely styled and well appointed interior promised incomparable comfort. Only 2,150 1954 Eldorado Convertibles were produced.

The vendor has owned the splendid Eldorado offered here since 1980. A "full body off-the-frame" restoration was completed over the past two years. The car is beautifully finished in Alpine White—an exclusive Eldorado color—and features an authentic and superbly detailed red-and-white interior with buttery-soft leather seating for six.

According to the vendor, the Cadillac's body panels were exceptional before restoration, and indeed the quality of the "shut lines" on the restored car is commendable. The chrome has been renewed and is excellent. New wire wheels and whitewall tires have been fitted. Even the top motor and its hydraulic rams are new.

Extraordinary attention to authentic detail is evidenced by the correctly reproduced Eldorado-only diamond-pattern (aka "snake-skin") appliqués on the dash and interior trim panels.

This Eldorado was restored to show and go. The vendor reports the rebuilt 230hp Cadillac 4-bbl. V8 engine has "perfect compression" and states that the car performs well at expressway speeds and beyond. The transmission is a four-speed Hydra-Matic.

Eldorado standard equipment included power windows, seat, steering and brakes. This example is further equipped with an optional automatic headlight dimmer. There is a new vinyl boot for the top and the original three-piece hard plastic boot, in urestored but good condition, is also included. A set of modern seatbelts accompanies the car. Restoration documentation will also be included.

The 1954 Cadillac Eldorado expresses in its every line and detail the American ebullience that defined its era. This superbly restored and well-sorted example is sure to make every tour and show a special experience.
