Lot Details
An Orson Welles oil painting, circa 1950s
Rendered on board; image depicts a clown (who resembles the Tin Man from "The Wizard of Oz") juggling with bowling balls; signed in lower right corner "Orson Welles" in a more deliberate hand than his normal autograph; this work is similar to the drawings Welles created in 1956 which were published decades later in the 1996 book, 'Les Bravades: A Portfolio of Pictures Made for Rebecca Welles by Her Father.' (Please note there is paint cracking and chipping evident on clown's arm and chin, showing how Welles painted this work over another.)
Matted and framed: 34 x 28in; Painting only: 25 x 19in
