Australian Gold Specimen
Australian Gold Specimen
near Bendigo, Central Victoria Goldfields, Australia
A fascinating visual contrast to the other lots offered in this auction is this specimen of naturally etched salt lake gold—with the added allure of somewhat re resembling a fish hook in overall appearance. Specimens from this area are typically wonderfully bright in color—the salt is responsible for leaching out the staining ironstone leaving the nuggets very pure in color—and practically glowing with an inner light. This fine example shows sharp edges and pock-marked surfaces characteristic for this locality and serves as an excellent comparison to the water worn specimens on offer in this auction.
