Russian Trilobite w/ Echnoids
Trilobite with Eye Stalks
Asaphus kotlukovi
St. Petersburg, Russia

The Wolchow River streams near St. Petersburg produce some of the best preserved and most beautiful, life-like trilobites in the world. This 450-million-year-old trilobite is one of the largest ever found in the region. Also displayed on the natural limestone matrix are two echinoderms related to the starfish. These two 1-inch diameter balls were attached to the sea bottom with stems; one clearly displays its five-fold symmetry with irregular hexagonal plates visible in transparent calcite on the top of the ball. The huge Asaphus alone makes this piece valuable to collectors; the addition of the echinoderms vaults it to must-have status.
Matrix measures 9 x 6in, Trilobite measures 4.5 x 3in
