Russia, Nicholas I (1825-1855) 1826 Coronation Medallion in Gold
166 g., 6.5 cm. Diakov-446.1. Obverse: A bust of Nicholas I faces right, signed V. Aleveev on the truncation; Reverse: All-seeing eye over a vertical column with CROWNED IN MOSCOW 1826 below, signed Lavretsov on the right of the base. A simple, uncluttered design with open fields on each side. Struck in high relief with deeply mirrored fields and frosted devices. For pedigree purposes, a small lateral mark is seen to the right of the lower neck near the legend in the right obverse field. Our research fails to find any previous sales for this medal (or one like it). An extremely important opportunity for the specialist in rare Russian medals and coinage.
