An American eagle pommel infantry officer's sword
Slightly curved 31 inch quill-back blade with 20 inch section decorated with alternating etched and engraved, blued and gilt panels featuring conventional florals and panoplies of arms and a Federal eagle with E Pluribus Unum riband. Silver-plated brass hilt comprising shell-form languets; straight, six-ball quillons; chain guard; eaglehead pommel with gaping beak. One-piece bone grip with checkered, fluted and fan-shaped panels. Silver-plated brass scabbard.
Condition: Fine blade retains most blued, gilt and etched decoration as well as most original polish showing scattered patches of spotting/minor pitting. Hilt and scabbard retain traces of silver-plated finish. Outer quillon slightly bent. Grip with hairline cracks and chipping below pommel. Chain guard a replacement.
