A Prussian officer's small sword
late 19th century
Straight 33 inch blade with 11 inch blued and gilt panel engraved with conventional motifs, the ricasso with Metz maker's marks. Brass hilt comprising assymmetrical shells, short stepped quillon, knucklebow and ovoid pommel. Silver wire-wrapped grip. Retaining gold bullion sword knot with narrow black and white lacing.
Condition: Blade with patches of spotting/light pitting and retaining traces of blued and gilt decoration. Hilt fine. Grip excellent. Sword knot with staining and slight fraying.
