A British Pattern 1796 infantry officer's sword
The 32 inch spadroon blade with broad fuller and 12 inch blued and gilt panel engraved with florals, panoply of arms and GR cipher with crown. Gilt brass hilt of standard pattern, the quillon, shells and pommel with molded floral panels. Grips wrapped in plaited silver wire. Retaining original beige silk and silver wire sword knot. Black leather scabbard, the gilt brass mounts with suspension rings and frog stud.
Condition: Blade with much original polish, areas of light pitting and most blued and gilt decoration. Hilt retains nearly all the gilt finish. Grip excellent. Sword knot with some fraying. Upper scabbard mounts with perhaps 35-45% gilt finish. Drag with slight traces and some dents. Sound leather with some scuffing.
