A scarce French Revolutionary Period officer's sword for the 6th Regiment
Broad, slightly curved single edged blade engraved and gilt with panoplies of arms, one featuring a Phrygian cap, and inscribed LF/officier/du 6me/de/Cavalerie on one side and Rupublique/Francaise on the reverse. Heavy brass hilt a la garde de bataille. Leather covered grip bound with plaited copper wire. Leather scabbard with brass mounts.
Condition: Blade with sharp engraving retaining most gilt finish and showing some scattered spotting/light pitting. Hilt with scattered small marks, one inboard branch with period repair. Grip showing some wear and minor losses to leather. Scabbard leather scuffed and showing taped repair to center, the mounts with numerous marks, one suspension ring detached.
