A French Empire grenadier officer's saber
circa 1800-10
Slightly curved 25 inch fullered blade engraved with conventional florals. Brass stirrup hilt, the front languets molded with silver-plated grenade; knucklebow and tip of quillon molded with florals. Checkered ebony grip. Original leather scabbard with brass drag and throat, the latter with frog stud.
Condition: Blade cleaned and showing areas of light pitting, some wear to engraving and generous traces of gilt finish. Grip with repaired cracks. Scabbard scuffed but very sound.
