An Ottoman ivory-hilted yataghan
The broad 24 inch recurved blade with a 16 inch fuller below the spine and engraved with an extensive inscription on a fish roe ground. Spine chased with a narrow, dentate band. Copper hilt of typical form, the blade reinforcement set with green glass cabochons, the spine with fluted coral panels. Marine ivory gripscales. Black leather-covered scabbard, the tip in the form of a monster head.
Condition: Blade showing some wear, minor pitting and three nicks to edge. Blade/hilt with two small repairs at top and bottom of reinforcing panel. Gripscales showing some filled areas and chip to one ear. Scabbard with some losses to leather at throat and tip.
