1939 BSA 498cc M23 Empire Star
Registration no. FLR 429
Frame no. 86-4089
Engine no. JM 23 379
BSA received great esteem in 1937 when Wal Handley pushed a visually standard BSA 500 with a new engine designed by Val-Page around Brooklands, resulting in a coveted 'Gold Star' for a 100 m.p.h. lap. BSA's reputation rose aided by their excellent engineering and styling. This M23-engined Empire Star was one of the bikes made in the wake of this event and at £70, not an inexpensive machine. Visually striking in BSA's pre-war colour scheme, FLR 429 has been in the careful hands of an enthusiast for the model, and is well maintained. Careful restoration has been completed to original spec when necessary. A fast, powerful, and eminently tunable roadster, it comes complete with V5C, a current MOT, and is certainly ready to go.
