Napoleon based after the painting "Napoleon Crossing the Alps" after Jacques Louis David (1748-1825); Catherine II depicted riding sidesaddle holding the orb of rule in one hand and with emblems of learning beneath her mount, inscribed G. Junge, raised on ebonized wood plinths inlaid with sovereign's imperial ciphers and the dates of their birth and death.
