An Ottoman kilij
18th century
Curved 32 inch blade with 9 inch yelman, one side with extensively inlaid in gold with inscriptions and florals. Crossguard inlaid with gold banding and florals. Grip with copper spine showing traces of gold plating, the grip covered in green shagreen. Scabbard also covered in green shagreen, the throat and tip with gold inlaid florals en suite to guard, the suspension with chased and gold-plated mounts.
Condition: Blade with patches of pitting and dark staining. Guard with rust patination overall and some losses to gold inlay. Grip with losses to shagreen. Scabbard with some small areas of loss to shagreen, the mounts showing rust patination and some losses to gold decoration.
