c.1950 Vincent 998cc Rapide
Registration no. KON 607
Frame no. RC5087
Engine no. F10AB/1/1447
The Rapide offered here is one of two built by the current vendor using parts from the stock belonging to the late Ted Bloomfield, an old friend who ran MCS motorcycles in London. Ted had amassed a large collection of Vincents and spares but never found time to build any bikes, so the vendor was asked to build two and around five years ago was given this one, which consists of a 1950 main frame, 1947 rear frame and 1949 engine. The vendor has more than 50 years experience of professional engine building, but having completed the rebuild finds the Rapide too heavy, hence the decision to sell.
New parts used in the rebuild include oversize (thicker) cylinder liners, pistons, big-end and main bearings, oil pump, idler gear, magneto drive gear, valves, valve guides, primary chain, filters, front carburettor, rear carburettor slide, various oil pipes, two gearbox bearings, complete exhaust system, stainless mudguards and stays, finned brake drums, hubs, alloy wheel rims, stainless steel spokes, tyres, VOC long seat, fork spindles, eccentrics, etc, etc. In addition, the fuel tank has been refinished, a new Burlen battery fitted and all cables, chains, etc renewed. Non-standard features include Black Shadow cylinder heads, reconditioned 5" speedometer, 12-volt electrics, coil ignition and a Dave Hill centre stand.
Completed earlier this year, the machine is described by the private vendor as in generally excellent condition and offered with sundry restoration invoices (many from VOC Spares Ltd), VOC dating certificate, current MoT/tax and Swansea V5.
