1958 Norton Dominator 500cc Café Racer
Engine no. 74926
Freshly completed in 2009, this delectable Norton Dominator Café Racer consists of a Norton 'wide line' Featherbed frame and a 500cc Model 88SS engine, with short Roadholder forks (fitted with new springs) up front and a box-section swinging arm at the rear. The wheels boast Akront alloy rims, which are laced via stainless steel spokes to a Grimeca four-leading-shoe hub up front and a conical hub at the rear. Both tyres are new.
Built by world famous marque specialist Mick Hemmings, the engine incorporates Superblend main bearings, a balanced crankshaft and rods, 4S camshaft and a big-valve cylinder head. The engine breathes via twin Amal Concentric carburettors and power is transmitted via a dry clutch to a Norton laid-down gearbox. New components include the aluminium alloy fuel and oil tanks, the fairing and screen, rev counter and speedometer, rear-set footrests, rear shock absorbers, drive chain, sprockets and magneto. Offered with sundry restoration invoices, this handsome and exceptionally well-specified machine would, once road-registered, make a superb classic sports roadster or alternatively, with relatively little extra work, could be made eligible for historic racing.
