c.1962 Ariel 250cc Arrow Racing Motorcycle
Engine no. T31074-G (see text)
This Arrow had already been converted into a racer and was assembled and complete when it was purchased by the current owner at Bonhams' Stafford sale in October 2004 (Lot 324). The vendor has since made some improvements: porting the crankcases, cylinders and pistons according to the article on Arrow tuning published in Motorcycle Mechanics magazine back in the 1960s (copy available) and acquiring some useful spares. However, he now realises that he is unlikely to complete the project, hence the decision to sell. Partially dismantled, the machine comes with all the removed parts plus two alternative crankcase sets (including the original, '18161'), new clutch, later-type (stronger) swinging arm, a Japanese TLS front hub, Amal Monobloc 1" carburettor, and assorted new bearings and seals. Offered without reserve.
