Footnotes

  • Honda's RA107 Formula 1 chassis was the result of ten months design, development and manufacture, combining the efforts of the Japanese manufacturer's UK Formula 1 operation and some long-term projects undertaken at its R&D facility in Tochigi, Japan. Despite the magnitude of Honda's resources the car turned out to be something of a disappointment, as drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello scored only six points in total throughout the entire 2007 season (all going to Button). 'RA107-5' was driven by Rubens Barrichello that year, starting in 12 of the 17 rounds and covering a total distance of 8,190 kilometres. Its best result was 9th place in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Offered from a private collection, 'RA107-05' comes with a certificate of authenticity from Brawn GP (inheritors of Honda's F1 operation and now racing as Mercedes GP) and a history file signed by Team Principal, Ross Brawn himself. Modern Formula 1 chassis are rarely offered for sale and this one is essentially in 'as last raced' condition, incorporating state-of-the-art aerodynamic technology. The chassis has been fitted with advanced simulation hardware and rFactor software by Bob Salisbury Engineering, enabling enthusiasts to experience the adrenalin rush of Formula 1 racing for themselves.
Providing awesome entertainment with amazing visual effects, the simulator can be used as it is or, in addition, the action could be shown on a second, separate, larger screen providing an overview of the action for spectators (separate screen not supplied). The adaptation has been carried out sympathetically, enabling the main simulation hardware to be easily removed, thereby preserving the chassis' authenticity and potential value. To this end, any original parts (such as radiators) removed to accommodate the simulator hardware have been retained.
The software is set up in 2007 configuration and the actual chassis can be depicted on the screen. All 2007, 2008 and 2009 Formula 1 chassis and circuits are included and can be selected by the user. Features include: force feedback steering box with quick-release steering wheel and wireless paddle shift; CST F1-style pedal system with load cell brake pedal to improve driver feedback; BSE electronically adjustable pedal system including wired controller; 32" flat screen monitor and mounting bracket; internally mounted speaker system; removable computer system preloaded with rFactor driving simulation software; RCD and surge protection; IEC power coupling, 240-volt; option of automatic or manual paddle gearshift; and a host of user-defined preferences. The software can be set up to recreate an entire race weekend including practice sessions, qualifying and the race. Alternatively, test sessions can be selected. The chassis incorporates a discreet mounting point for a laptop that is used to operate the simulator. Backup discs for the operating system/software and hardcopy operator manuals are provided also. A suitable Renault Master race transporter is available separately (see Lot 543).
Finished in 'earthdreams' livery, this ex-works Honda Formula 1 car would make a wonderful attraction at any sales promotion, corporate day, team-building event, exhibition, celebration or other similar activity, as well as representing a potential source of income. Offered without reserve.
