Footnotes

  • This right-hand drive Aston Martin V8 has the desirable ZF five-speed manual transmission and is finished in Cambridge Blue with dark blue leather interior. The car was purchased new in July 1974 by a Mr Dyne and in July 1981 was shipped to Singapore, from whence it returned to the UK in October 1983. An expired MoT on file dated December 1983 records the mileage at that time as 32,414. In January 1984 the car was sent for servicing to the factory, which had looked after it prior to export and continued to maintain it until the late 1980s when marque specialists Ian Mason Ltd took over, assuming responsibility for the next few years.
In May 1992 (at 55,918 miles) the car was back at the factory for a major service and upgrade. AML's letter on file observes: 'Having just completed routine maintenance and repairs to the vehicle, plus numerous modifications and enhancements to the engine, mechanical, body fittings, interior trim and electrical components, it is a pleasure to inform you that I know of no other Aston Martin of the same age in such exceptional condition.'
Correspondence on file reveals that between December 1995 and March 1996 there was much discussion with AML about embarking on a major upgrade to all components while leaving the external appearance unchanged. A complete engine-out overhaul and rebuild to 'Vantage X' specification (430bhp, 395ft/lbs torque) was proposed, to include in addition Vantage X suspension, brakes, renewal of chassis, bare-metal re-spray, large-bore exhaust, lights, seating to Vantage specification (including lumbar support and heating), new air conditioning, new Avon tyres, centre console repaired and colour matched, trim, alarm systems, tracker system, aerial, electrics, etc. The work was duly completed in May 1996 at a cost of £75,608, the mileage being recorded as 61,611 at that time.
In March 2002 the Aston was purchased by the current vendor from famous marque specialists, R S Williams Ltd, having just undergone a full 10,000-mile service that included new front/rear wheel bearings, differential upgrades, new battery, sills removed and refitted after chassis underside cleaned and Waxoyled, leather re-Connollised, and a Vantage steering wheel installed.
In the summer of 2006 the vendor took the car to Spain and in May 2007 drove it back to R S Williams for a full service, describing the round trip as a superb driving experience. In January 2008 Prestige Performance (Spain) serviced the car and fitted a new clutch hydraulic cylinder, ignition system and coil. In September '08 the Aston was SORN'd and placed in storage in Spain, remaining in an air-conditioned garage for the past 18 months. We are advised that it has been taken on short drives locally to maintain the integrity of the engine, tyres, rubbers, etc and that the odometer currently displays a total of 80,172 miles.
Described as in generally excellent condition apart from a few minor cosmetic blemishes, this sensibly upgraded and exceptionally well maintained Aston Martin V8 is offered with Swansea V5 registration document and extensive AML and marque specialist service records supporting the aforementioned history.
