1935 Hispano-Suiza T56 torpédo tout-temps
Coachwork by Fiol

Chassis no. 341 68 00

There was continuous collaboration between the French Hispano-Suiza company and the Spanish Hispano-Suiza company. Each offered its projects to the other in a two-way exchange. When Hispano-Suiza France presented the Type H6C on the French market, Spain almost immediately decided to produce it for the Spanish market under the designation T56 46CV.

Production of the Type T56 began in 1929 and ended in 1940. The Type 56 is very similar to the 46CV produced in France, but its wheelbase was extended by 200mm to 3.80m. During the course of these eleven years, only about two hundred examples were sold.

Our example bears chassis number 341-6800. It was delivered as a chassis-engine during 1935 to the coachbuilder Baltasar Fiol in Barcelona, Catalunya. He was one of the most highly regarded Spanish coachbuilders and worked on the chassis of numerous prestigious marques such as Rolls Royce, Dodge, Cadillac, Packard and Hispano-Suiza. After the War, he became a concessionary garage mechanic for the BMC Group in Barcelona.

This superb open tourer convertible was owned by the late Jacques Harguindeguy, the "Basque shepherd" who, after emigrating to the United States, amassed an impressive collection of the most beautiful European prestige cars. It has superb black bodywork that perfectly shows off the elegance of its lines.

The car was sold to the current owner by the well known Spanish dealer, Mr Pueche of Madrid. According to him, the car was delivered new to a certain Mr Canales of Bilbao. It is superbly restored and is fully operational. It will be delivered to its purchaser with a substantial batch of special spare parts, a technical dossier and its original maintenance book. It has an American road permit and its customs documentation as the car is customs cleared in EU.

This superb Hispano-Suiza has a rare combination of talents, offering a Spanish chassis and a convertible body that was very rare in the 1930s and signed by one of the most prestigious of Spanish coachbuilders. Jacques Harguindeguy, an aesthete and connoisseur, was not mistaken; neither will you be in choosing this superb automobile.
