A late nineteenth-century album, compiled by T.L. Winthrop and captioned "Rough Drawings by T.L.W.", containing upwards of 110 fine pen and ink drawings mounted on approximately 90 pages (some one to a page, others 3 or more), several architectural, others ceramics, tableware and furniture, a few mounted albumen prints of works of art, pebble-grained morocco gilt by Asprey, g.e., 4to, [1860s-90s]

  • A clipping mounted on the first page of the album describes T.L. Winthrop as an "Architect, Designer and Remodeller of all that is good and great in American and Foreign Art. He erects with equal taste the Princely Mansion and the Hovel of Poverty... He also has a neat and lively eye for Mossy Cells, Ornamental Grottoes... claim pre-eminence in... the use and adaption... of Savannah brick..." The charming and finely executed pen and ink drawings include designs for architectural projects, along with thumbnail sketches of ceramics and other collectable objects either in, or once in, the possession of the artist - many with brief notes as to to provenance or current status, e.g. "sold", "given to Lady Playfair, "Bot. of Davis, Bond St., 1869".
