Footnotes

  • "Mounseer Nongtongpaw; or, The Discoveries of John Bull in a Trip to Paris", as titled on the cover, is an adaption of a popular ballad by Charles Dibdin. It has been attributed to Mary Godwin (later Shelley), the ten year old daughter of the publisher William Godwin. It seems likely that the actual author was John Taylor, but it is possible the published text incorporated suggestions from Mary.
