Two albums of photographs by a First World War nurse, working in wards in London and France, 72 gelatin silver prints, window mounted, many signed in the negative "Kate Pragnnell", with captions and dates in white ink, each approximately 80 x 130mm., original cloth, 8vo and 4to, [c.1915-1918]

  • A vivid record of a nurse's working life at the 2nd London General Hospital in London, and the General Hospital at Rouen. Includes many views of convalescent soldiers in the wards (many in huts), in beds or wheelchairs, "walking cases", "a convoy going back to duty", "loading an ambulance", playing cards, "in the garden of hut II", mingling with nurses (Christmas and Easter entertainments) as well as the Sisters in the quarters. The final image is a close-up of "A fractured femur".
