Footnotes

  • A photographic record of the Imperial Yeomanry Hospital established, in 1900, at Deelfontein for the recuperation of British soldiers active in the Boer War. The commandant was Colonel A. T. Sloggett, who features in many of the images with his staff (once holding the chin of a nurse, twice with a dog on his lap, once talking to a "medieaval knight" on a horse). Also images of the putting up of a large canvas tent, meerkats beside the tent, a tethered aardvak, and the hospital cemetary.
