A Liverpool Herculaneum cache pot and stand, possibly painted by Samuel Williams
Circa 1815
The pot of slightly tapered cylindrical form with everted lipped rim and surmounted to either side with gilt lion mask ring handles, the front painted with a rural scene depicting two figures walking along a path before a cottage, the verso painted with a landscape scene with church ruins and figures in the foreground, in the typical muted palette, mounted within an outswept circular base, decorated with central laurel gilt banding; 12.5cm high, unmarked, (rubbing to gilt areas).
