With five lobes, engraved arms of Garrick of Hampton, Middlesex, within a Rococo cartouche to rim, rear with reeded edge and touchmarks of Thomas Chamberlain, London, (w.1732-1806), (OP873, PS1603), diameter 9¾in

Footnotes

  • The arms of this plate relate ownership to the family of David Garrick, the celebrated 18th Century actor. In an attempt to escape the pressure of London theatrical life Garrick moved to Hampton House in 1754. John & Robert Adam were employed to re-model the house.

    An extremely similar plate was sold, Sotheby's, 'R.F.Michaelis Collection', November 1973, lot 46, and then again at the 'Bradshaw Collection', Sotheby's June 1977, lot 39.
