Mounted in gold, inset with an enamelled photographic portrait of John Brown, the frame bloomed and inlaid with a black enamel inscription reading 'DEAR JOHN/27.MARCH.1883', the reverse engraved 'FROM V.R.I',and with a glazed locket compartment containing by repute a lock of John Brown's hair, length 3.80cm.
