A rare Meissen apple-green-ground octagonal dish
circa 1730-35
Painted in enamels and gilding with a landscape scene depicting a pagoda and fence with stylised rockwork and flowering branches with a bird in flight overhead, 15.1cm across, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue

    A dish of this form is referred to in a late 18th-century inventory as a "8 eckicht Zukerblättle" [octagonal sugar (confectionary) dish]. A teabowl and saucer from the same service was sold in these Rooms from the Hoffmeister Collection, 26 May 2010, lot 95.
