A Meissen beaker and saucer
circa 1725
Painted with early European landscape scenes, the beaker with three figures by an arch with a ship in the background, on the reverse an estuary scene with a figure in a boat and a ship in the distance, the saucer with a Kauffahrtei scene of a merchant with two plumed pack horses by a quayside, each within a quatrelobe gilt scrollwork cartouche filled with Böttger lustre and embellished with iron-red foliate scrollwork, the rims with gilt C-scroll borders, the saucer with three concentric iron-red circles on the reverse, the saucer: 12.7cm diam., the beaker: 7.8cm high, gilt numeral 17. to both, incised / inside footrim of saucer (2)
