A rare Meissen two-handled chocolate beaker and saucer and another saucer
circa 1725
Each moulded with a fluted band with alternating green and gilt grounds, superbly painted with chinoiserie scenes, the saucer with a figure kneeling by two bowls and another filled with objects, flanked by flowering bushes, within a shaped gilt quatrelobe cartouche filled with Böttger lustre and embellished with iron-red scrollwork, the saucer with two scenes depicting figures taking tea, and another kneeling before an idol, the ear-shaped handles embellished in gilding, formal gilt scroll borders to rims, the saucer: 12.6cm diam.; the beaker: 8.1cm high impressed .. inside footrim of beaker, incised / inside footrim of saucer, together with a similar Meissen saucer, circa 1725, painted with a scene depicting a kneeling figure holding a staff in which three birds are perched, within a shaped gilt qautrelobe cartouche filled with Böttger lustre and enbellished with iron-red foliate scrollwork, formal gilt swag border, the reverse moulded with a fluted border alternating in green and gold, 12.7cm diam., incised / inside footrim (3)
