the Europeans versus The Moors (the European side left natural, the Moorish side stained red), the white king as a monarch wearing a crown and a cloak, his hair tied behind with a ribbon, the white queen as his consort, wearing a crown and a cloak, white bishops as fous or clergy, white knights as chevaliers, white rooks as stepped turrets, white pawns wearing wigs and frock coats; the red king wearing a crown and bearing a sceptre, the red queen wearing a crown and with dangling ear-rings, the red bishops as Moors wearing ear-rings and a fez, the red knights as Moorish horsemen wearing turbans, red rooks as stepped turrets, the red pawns as Moors with bald pates and wearing ear-rings,
the king 7.3cm high, the pawn 5.6cm high.
