one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings with pierced crowns, queens with multi-baluster centre sections and ball finials, bishops with egg shaped tops, knights as arched horses' heads, rooks as raised turrets, pawns with ball finials, in a 19th century mahogany box, the interior lined with pink paper, together with a 19th century rosewood and boxwood board, with a raised "ebonised" border,
the king 10cm high, the pawn 4cm high, the board 42cm wide (2).
